Susan Cyriac is an architect by profession who ventured into the field of Planning during the early phase of her career. Later on, she embarked on academics and research in the fields associated with architecture and Planning.
Susan completed her B.Arch from the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, in 2003. She did her Masters from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, specializing in Regional Planning in 2006. Immediately after completing her Master’s degree, she got placed with Consulting Engineering Services, India Private Limited, a Planning firm. In 2007, she shifted her focus to property consulting and worked with Jones Lang LaSalle, a Fortune 500 company, till 2010. During her stint with JLL, she received citations for Best Performer in 2009 in the South Zone and was nominated for the Best Researcher award. She contributed to the in-house magazine of JLL and assisted in the JLL White paper – “Kochi-India’s rising star” in 2008. During her tenure with JLL, she got involved in property valuation, best-use options, and feasibility studies in Kerala and Karnataka. After being an independent consultant from 2010 to 2013, she joined the Alsalama Institute of Architecture, Perinthalmanna as a full-time faculty member. Her experience as an academician encouraged her to follow a research journey, and she joined the National Institute of Technology, Calicut, to pursue her Ph.D. Her research was about the dichotomous classification of the Rural-Urban Continuum Settlement Pattern of Kerala and the need for a typological classification for Spatial Planning. Her research interests are Spatial Planning and Remote Sensing, focusing on environmental issues.
